Description
Mountains, meadows, and forests skirt the shoreline of bluish-green Lake Plansar, a heart-shaped, artificial body of water constructed in Slovenia’s Jerezko Valley in 1970. A much larger glacial lake from the last ice age once filled much of this valley. The lake began to drain dry in the 13th century when a severe earthquake destroyed the rock barrier that hemmed it in. It was gone by the 19th century. The residents of Jerezko valley who created Lake Plansar did so in memory of this lost lake.
